How to clean a dog bed and keep it fresh every day

How often should you wash a dog bed?

There is no one perfect washing schedule for every dog. For a bed that is used every day, washing it every one to two weeks is a good general starting point, but your dog’s habits may mean it needs cleaning more often.

Consider washing the bed more frequently if your dog:

• Spends a lot of time outdoors

• Gets muddy or wet on walks

• Sleeps in the bed every day

For lighter use, washing every few weeks may be enough, especially if you remove loose fur and clean small marks between washes.

Remove hair and dirt before washing

Before washing your dog’s bed, take a few minutes to remove loose fur, dirt and crumbs. This helps the washing machine do its job and keeps excess hair out of the machine.

A simple pre-wash routine:

1. Shake the bed well – preferably outside, to remove loose dirt, crumbs and fur.

2. Vacuum the fabric – pay extra attention to seams, corners and other places where hair tends to collect.

3. Separate the removable parts – if your dog bed has removable components, take them apart before washing and always follow the care instructions.

Once the loose dirt and hair are gone, the bed is ready for washing.

How to wash and dry a dog bed properly

Always start with the care label, as different materials require different washing methods. Use a mild detergent and wash each removable part according to its instructions.

For TWO VIZSLAS beds, wash the inner bag at up to 60°C and the outer bag at up to 40°C. Remember to remove the inner hoop/frame before washing the outer bag.

The inner bag can be tumble dried at up to 60°C, while the outer bag should be air dried. Make sure everything is completely dry before putting the bed back together.

• 100% cotton with 100% polyester filling

• Wash up to 60°C

• Tumble dry up to 60°C

• Iron up to 200°C
  

Outer bag

• 100% polyester

• Wash up to 40°C

• Do not bleach, tumble dry or iron
  

Before washing the outer bag, remove the inner hoop/frame.

You may notice a small amount of fluff inside a new bed. This is normal and will wash out after the first wash.
